The Plague Doctor - Foaming Hand Wash
During the 17th-century bubonic plague epidemic, towns hired medical physicians to treat victims who were sick. These physicians wore a special costume that was thought to protect them from the plague. Part of this costume consisted of a mask with a long beak-shaped nose. The idea was that the beak would be stuffed with herbs and spices to act as a filter for the plague. The length of the beak was also thought to give the plagued air sufficient time to be filtered out before traveling into the physician's nose and lungs. This foaming hand wash was inspired by the methods used by these plague doctors. Draped in all black, and packed with essential oils derived from herbs and spices, this wash will give you a glimpse into an important part of our history.
